DOT sidewalk violation removal in Manhattan
A Notice of Sidewalk Violation gives you 75 days from the day you receive it to repair the defects NYC DOT recorded. We inspect what the notice cites, handle the permit, repair to DOT standards and get the job ready for the dismissal inspection, so the violation can be closed.
When is your repair deadline?
You have 75 days from the day you receive a Notice of Sidewalk Violation to make the repair, and a sidewalk permit does not extend that window. Enter the date on your notice to see your deadline.

How DOT violation removal works
-
Send us the notice
Call us or use the form. Tell us the date you received the notice and what it cites, and we will tell you how many days you have left.
-
Inspection and written estimate
We measure the frontage, check it against the DOT repair checklist and give you a clear scope and price in writing.
-
Permit and repair
The permit comes first. Then the defective flags come out and the new concrete goes in, with joints sealed and level.
-
Dismissal inspection
Once the work is done you request a dismissal through 311 and an inspector confirms the repair, which closes the violation.
The 75-day rule, in plain terms
The 75 days start when you receive the notice, as shown on the certified-mail receipt. If the notice was not delivered by mail, it is posted on the property and the posting date starts the clock. The period is the same at any time of year, and a sidewalk permit does not extend it.
If the repairs are not made within 75 days, NYC DOT may do the work itself or hire a contractor to do it, and the Department of Finance bills the property owner. At that point you no longer choose the schedule, the contractor or the price. If you call Nevora Sidewalk Manhattan early in the 75 days, those choices stay with you.
Repairing the sidewalk does not clear the violation on its own. After the work is finished, the owner requests a sidewalk violation dismissal through 311 and an inspector checks that the repair was done properly. The official rules are on the NYC DOT sidewalk pages and in DOT’s dismissal checklist.
What the dismissal inspector checks
- A sidewalk permit was obtained for the work
- Every defect cited in the notice has been removed
- Expansion joints are installed, sealed and level with the sidewalk: at least every 20 linear feet, at each property line, where the curb meets the sidewalk, and between concrete of different thicknesses
- Detectable warning surfaces (truncated domes) are installed wherever pedestrian ramps were repaired
- The whole sidewalk is visible for the inspection
- The inspection was booked through 311 with the permit number, property address, block and lot, violation number and your contact details

Questions about DOT violation removal
When does the 75-day window start?
On the day you receive the notice, as shown on the certified-mail receipt. If the notice was posted on the property instead, the posting date starts the clock. The window is the same length all year.
Does getting a permit give me more time?
No. A sidewalk permit does not extend the 75-day period, so it is worth starting early.
What happens if I miss the 75 days?
NYC DOT may repair the sidewalk itself or hire a contractor, and the Department of Finance bills you for the work. Getting it done yourself first keeps the timing and the price in your hands.
How does the violation actually get removed?
After the repair, request a sidewalk violation dismissal through 311. An inspector visits to confirm the work was completed properly.
